Babri Masjid Demolition Case: LK Advani, Uma Bharti, Murli Manohar Joshi To Face Criminal Conspiracy Charge

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) appeal in the Babri mosque demolition case and restored criminal conspiracy charge against Bharatiya Janata Party leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and others.

The court ordered the joint trial of two separate cases against Advani, Joshi, Uma Bharti and unknown 'karsevaks' in Lucknow and directed the Lucknow court to conduct trial in these cases on a day-to-day basis without granting adjournment.

Kalyan Singh, also named in the case, enjoys Constitutional immunity as Rajasthan Governor and can be tried only after he ceases to hold office, the court said.

The SC also ordered that the trial judge hearing the Babri case will not be transferred till the judgement is delivered and directed CBI to ensure that some prosecution witnesses appear in trial court for recording of testimony.
